Our Craft

The craft
behind the book.

From photograph to heirloom. A Booked Images book isn’t simply printed and delivered.

It is conceived. Designed. Printed.

Bound. Finished.

And checked by hand.

Bookbinding tools, materials and handwork behind a Booked Images book

Our small team brings together designers, printers and experienced bookbinders, combining contemporary design with traditional craft skills, all under one roof in Barkham, Berkshire.

01 Consultation

It starts with a conversation.

Before we design anything, we want to understand your story.

What are you celebrating? Which photographs matter most? How do you want the book to feel? What materials do you love?

From a wedding album to a family history or luxury brand book, we’ll help shape the idea before the first page is designed.

02 Curation & Design

Every page has a purpose.

Our designers don’t simply place photographs into templates.

We consider the rhythm of the story, the relationship between images, typography, white space and detail.

The result is a book that feels considered from beginning to end. No templates. No off-the-shelf layouts. Just your story, beautifully designed.

03 Print

Beautiful images deserve to be printed beautifully.

We carefully select the print and paper specification to complement the character of your book.

From fine art and matte papers to photographic and lay-flat options, every choice contributes to the final experience.

04 Binding

Where craft becomes tangible.

This is where the idea becomes a book.

Pages are carefully assembled and hand-bound in our UK craft bindery using traditional techniques and contemporary materials.

Our master bookbinder brings over forty years of experience to every project.

05 The Finishing Touches

The details make the difference.

Leather. Heritage buckram. Foil. Debossing. Ribbons. Beautiful endpapers. Picture covers. Bespoke slipcases. Clamshell boxes.

Your book can be finished in ways that make it entirely yours.

The bench

Our master bookbinder brings over forty years of experience to every project.

Machine binding is consistent. Hand binding is considered. It allows a book to be squared, tensioned and finished individually, and it allows materials no automated line will take.

Materials

Touch
matters.

A luxury book isn’t only something you see. It’s something you hold.

Fine leather

Full-grain hide, chosen for how it takes a fold and how it ages. It warms to the hand within a few years and carries a patina no coating can imitate.

Heritage buckram

A tightly woven cotton, filled and coated until it is dimensionally stable. Developed for Victorian library books and still what conservators reach for.

Premium fabrics

The Pellaq series offers a clean, exotic texture with a sharp modern finish. Its durable, scratch-resistant surface echoes the look of exotic leather in a sleek, fashion-inspired way.

Fine art papers

Matte, uncoated stock that holds shadow detail and gives skin an unglazed quality. The right choice when the photography is quiet rather than saturated.

Lay-flat pages

Construction that lets a spread open completely level, so a panorama crosses the centre of the book without losing a face to the fold.

Foil stamping

Metallic leaf pressed into the cover with a heated die. Gold, silver, copper and matte pigment foils, struck one impression at a time.

Debossing

The die pressed without foil, so the mark is recessed and reads only as shadow. Restrained, tactile, and the finish that most rewards good leather.

Embossing

A clean, tactile metallic detail that feels premium, precise and high-end. Ideal for luxurious books.

Custom endpapers

The spread that opens the book. Plain, marbled, printed with a map, or blind-stamped with initials. It is the first thing the reader touches.

Ribbons

Woven satin markers bound into the spine, matched to the binding or set deliberately against it.

Presentation boxes

A rigid case made to the finished book rather than to a standard size, lined to complement the binding.

Clamshell cases

A clamshell box in portrait or landscape is a hinged luxury box finished with fabrics, linings and supporting ribbons, making it a signature choice for high-end projects.
